Why your sales team should be training like athletes

Business Is a Sport. And You’re an Athlete.

Sport is one of the most widely understood concepts around the world. Even if you don’t know the rules of every sport, you get the idea. Most of us have played a sport, know someone who did, or at least watched enough games to feel connected to it. It’s a universal language. A community builder. That’s why the Olympics are such a big deal around the world.

We look at elite athletes as the athletes. The pros. The ones who get paid to play a game. People say stuff like, “Must be nice to play a sport for a living.” And yeah, on the surface, it does look pretty nice. Practice a few hours a day, play a couple games a week, collect a nice check. Sounds like the life, right?

But what if I told you… You’re an athlete too. You and your team. You’re athletes playing a different kind of sport.

It’s not basketball or football. It’s the sport of business. And if you’re in sales? You’re in one of the toughest games out there.

Would you treat your day differently if you saw yourself as a sales athlete or corporate athlete? Would you train differently? Would you take care of your body and mind in a different way?

Because truth is... you should.

Let’s compare for a second…

Pro athletes spend most of their careers preparing for a few hours of performance a week. They break their bodies down in the gym, build them back up, rest, recover, stretch, eat right, sleep well. They’ve got full teams behind them. Coaches, nutritionists, chefs, physical therapists, sports psychologists, all focused on helping them show up at their best.

All of that… just to play a few games a week.

Now think about sales.

As soon as you’re hired, you’re in the game. There’s no offseason. No hours and hours of training/conditioning before the real performance starts. The performance is every day. 8-12 hours of live gameplay. Every. Single. Day.

No coaching staff designing a plan just for you. No chef cooking up brain food. No mental performance coach helping you navigate pressure, doubt, or burnout. No trainers helping you recover from a rough month or a bad quarter.

And yet… the expectations are the same. Show up. Be sharp. Perform. Win. Every time.

Some people still think, “Well, yeah, but business isn’t really a sport.” But let’s think about it...

Pro athletes? Some have guaranteed contracts. Sales reps? Miss your quota a few times and you’re done. Pro athletes? Game ends when the buzzer sounds. Sales reps? The game never ends. It follows you home. Into your evenings. Into your sleep.

There’s no clock to run out. And for many, no financial safety net.

So let me ask you this... Who’s really under more pressure?

So What’s the Point?

Business and sales are sports. We’re corporate athletes. Got it. Now what?

Now it’s time to take your training as seriously as pro athletes take theirs.

They condition their bodies. You HAVE to condition your mind.

Because if your mental conditioning is lacking, there’s no way you’re showing up at your best.

Think about when an athlete comes back from an injury. They’re rusty. Winded. A step slower than usual. Well, when your mind is out of shape? It’s the same thing.

Think about when you’re drained emotionally. How do you show up? Or when you’re hungry and crashing? Or when stress from home follows you to work? You know you’re not performing at your best, even if you try to push through. It adds up.

Truth is... Most companies don’t prioritize mental conditioning. Most don't even know it's a thing. Most sales leaders don’t know how to train their own minds.. let alone help their team train theirs. And most reps are just trying to keep their head above water.

That’s where we come in.

We help corporate and sales athletes train the one thing that runs the whole show — their mind. We help leaders gain the tools to train themselves and their teams, just like pro athletes have support staff to keep them at peak performance.

Because the game of sales and business? It’s one of the hardest sports out there. And you deserve to be trained like it.

Keep tuning in as we break down how to condition yourself and your mind for high performance. Because this isn’t just about surviving the game. It’s about performing your best...when it matters most.

With Love,

James
